Marilyn Nienart
Marilyn Nienart is a handweaver living in Oneonta, NY. She is a native of Burlington Flats and a graduate of Edmeston Central School. She received an AAS degree from Onondaga Community College and a BA degree from Hartwick College, and holds a lifetime certification from the Institute for Supply Management as a Certified Purchasing Manager.
Marilyn played the bagpipes with the Hobart Fire Department Pipes and Drums band, Schenectady Pipe Band, and most recently the Leatherstocking District Pipe Band. She has also competed as a bagpipe soloist in competitions in New York State, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.
After seeing her friend Emily's weaving loom and weaving, Marilyn was inspired to buy a loom and weaving supplies -- and has never looked back. Emily gave her lessons and continues to be a valuable resource and sounding board. Marilyn has also taken weaving lessons from Master Weaver Rabbit Goody of Thistle Hill Weavers in Cherry Valley.
Marilyn especially likes to weave winter scarves from a wool-silk blend, and kitchen towels, table runners, place mats, and napkins from 100% cotton or a cotton-linen blend fiber.
As important as weaving is, family is most important. Marilyn is wife to Larry Nienart, mother to Brooke and Mike Chilson, mother-in-law to Nicole Chilson, grandmother to Bryce and Reid Chilson, and sister to her best friend and supporter: Pam Seabury.
