All of my work is dynamically influenced by the ancient tradition of tile making Spain.
Like all other Mediterranean countries, Spain has a long and exquisite history of creating magical spaces in which tiles play a major part in the architecture of cities & buildings. Both urban public spaces, and the privacy of our homes are embellished with ever changing patrons of tiles to remind us that we are on the earth to life fully. The drive to create spaces that make us feel and understand how beauty affects our everyday life is a constant reminder of the importance of living both as spiritual beings and as sentient beings.
Many of the tiles I make are designed to stand alone as coaster, cheese platters, bread trays etc. I have used many of the designs you see here to make backsplashes for homes, farm tables, adornments for wood and metal furniture. When I am not making geometrical tiles, I investigate other designs from around the world and create pieces based on portraits of people.
Working with clay and glazes is not an exact science! That is part of the beauty of it. Each creation is different just like there are no two identical snowflakes!
My pieces are made from start to finish by me in my studio in Gilbertsville, NY, including making the clay from scratch and then mounting them in various ways on different materials.
