Colored Pencil drawings
As a child, on pathways in the Pennsylvania woods, my imagination found inspiration. Now, through my colored pencil drawings, I seek to relive and share a part of that wondrous awe of nature and life I experienced in my youth. With graphite and colored pencil portraiture, I aim to capture not only the likeness of the people and animals I draw- but their personality and beauty as well.
I am primarily self-taught, though I have never been entirely comfortable with the term; attributing much of my learning as having come from books, studying the masters and modern day artists, and everyone and everything in the world around me. My part has simply been to stay curious, keep my mind and heart open, and leave lots of room for growth.
Entering a 'Draw Me' contest in the back of a magazine, as a teen, led to a two year correspondence course with Art Instruction Schools. After completing the course and finishing high school, I got married and started a family. Needless to say, there was less time for art. When I decided I needed a creative outlet again, I aspired to be a painter. However, a houseful of three energetic boys, dogs, and cats steered me in the direction of starting with a ‘simpler’ (and potentially less messy!) medium. I fell in love with pencils; though, I still make room in my heart for painting and other artistic endeavors.
I have completed 80+ commissioned portraits. My art has been displayed in Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries, Community Veterinary Center, Baer Sport Center, and sold at vendors' markets. I am honored to be a part of The Artisans' Guild, and reside in Wells Bridge, NY.
