I bind books by hand using traditional and innovative methods, using my combination of 19th and 20th century equipment and hand tools ranging from needles, thread and scissors to paring knives and glue brushes of all sorts. And of course bone folders- you can't bind anything without bone folders...

I grew up in New York State and began binding books after college in 1992. I fell in love with the books, the materials and the handwork that first summer at the library of the New York Academy of Medicine, and subsequently worked in the Smith College Libraries and the Frederick Law Olmsted Archive. I also worked in the renowned small binderies of that bookbinding hotbed Easthampton, MA, and my projects included artists' books, restoration and deluxe binding of fine press editions produced by the Limited Editions Club, the Pennyroyal Caxton Press, and 21 st - The Journal of Contemporary Photography. I started Paper Moon Bookbinding in 2005 after I moved to California, with the goal of making beautiful, useful books using fabulous materials that enrich everyday experience. In 2009 I moved to Bloomville NY and the beautiful Catskill Mountains, right near Hobart- the Book Village of the Catskills. My work now is split between new books and repair/restoration of antique and hard to replace books. All of my new books come with a tiny binder's ticket at the back hinge identifying it as a Paper Moon book.

My other obsessions in life include gardening, old decrepit houses, birds, food and vintage appliances from the 1930s-1960.
